Deep Roots Welcomes Grace Suh

Grace joined Deep Roots as a program manager in November. She will facilitate in-person encounters with local native gardens to inspire visitors on their own native plant journeys.  Most recently she was senior creative director at T-Mobile, producing videos highlighting the company’s diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) and other corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. Grace is thrilled to apply her storytelling and audience-nurturing expertise to the Deep Roots mission.

Born in Seoul, South Korea, Grace learned English in the ESL program of the Chicago Public School system and studied literature at Barnard College. She then worked as an editor at Alfred A. Knopf, Oxford University, and the Asian American Writers’ Workshop. During her years in New York City, she escaped as often as possible to hike the beautiful Appalachian mountain trails just an hour to the north.

Upon moving to Kansas City in 2007 with her partner and their two young children, Grace happily plunged into gardening. But with Doug Tallamy’s findings on the crucial ecosystem role of native flora, her love of plants has soared to feverish levels. You can find Grace at the Anita B. Gorman Conservation Discovery Center before plant sales, pacing the parking lot with list in hand.

Welcome aboard, Grace!
