We’re all worn out and a little bit dizzy from the roller coaster of a season that the end of this winter has turned out to be. But by the time our clocks had sprung forward, our native plant gardens had already sent out the alarm, calling the earliest greenery to re-emerge after a long and frigid dormant season. If you’re also ready to get the jump on the growing season, Deep Roots has a whole host of early spring programs that you should get on your calendar this week.
Habitat Garden Tours are going to be the talk of the town this year, with each of the expanded-hours, open-house events coinciding with a Deep Roots Native Plant Sale. This year’s motto is “Do Try This at Home,” and you’ll be inspired by April 12’s Spring Preview Tours in Prairie Village, KS. See which plants are the stars of the early spring gardens, then head over to buy your own at the Prairie Village Municipal offices. Registration opens soon, so sign up for notifications, or to volunteer, at the Deep Roots Habitat Garden Tours webpage.
If you’re looking for a chance to learn and improve on your spring plant I.D. and maintenance skills, check out the great opportunities to Discover Native Gardening by joining skilled naturalists in the demonstration gardens of the Anita B. Gorman Conservation Discovery Center. Beginning April 8th, volunteers of all skill levels will work hand-in-hand with native plant experts to hone skills in garden management, plant identification, and species-specific tips and tricks for creating a balanced and high-functioning landscape. Sign up today at the Deep Roots – Get Involved webpage.
