Pennsylvania Sedge

This shade-loving native sedge forms a dense, slowly spreading groundcover about 8 inches tall, with soft, arching, grass-like green leaves that create a turf-like effect in dry, shaded areas. Commonly found in woodlands and oak-dominated habitats, it thrives in well-drained soils and is more tolerant of dry conditions than many other sedges, spreading gently by rhizomes and occasional self-seeding. Ideal for use under trees or around shrubs, it provides a low-maintenance, semi-evergreen ground layer with subtle spring blooms and year-round texture.
