Clump-forming perennial that grows up to 3 feet tall, featuring arching, grass-like bluish-green leaves and clusters of three-petaled blue flowers that bloom from late spring into early summer, with each flower lasting just one day. Found in prairies, meadows, and woodland edges, it grows easily in a range of soils from dry to moderately moist and performs well in full sun to part shade, though flowering is best with more light. Attractive to bumblebees and well-suited for naturalized plantings, it can spread readily by seed but may be cut back mid-summer to control growth and encourage fresh foliage and a possible second bloom.
