Deep Roots is a collective impact organization of multi-sector Partners. Together with our Partners, we work to increase native plant landscapes. Our mission is to encourage the appreciation, conservation, and use of native plants in the heartland through educating, collaborating, and facilitating the planting of regenerative native landscapes that are essential for a healthy planet.

Join us for a guided naturalist walk this Saturday, November 16th. This walk is led by native plant nerd, Cydney Ross of Deep Roots and natural resource experts from Johnson County Parks and Recreation District. 🌸🐝 View prairie reconstructions, walk woodlands, and discuss the changing riparian landscape between Mill Creek and the Kaw River. The views are breathtaking. This is a hot spot for migratory birds, so who knows - maybe we'll see ducks, kingfishers, and perhaps Bald Eagles! 🦅 Registration is required and recommended donation of $10/person. 🌿🐛 We want EVERYONE to join us, so please pay what you can. Explore old-growth prairies bursting with life and Explore old-growth prairies bursting with life and whimsical oak/hickory woodlands with historic stone wall features on Saturday, September 21st. Experience nature first-hand during our Guided Naturalist Walk with Deep Roots and Johnson County Parks and Recreation District. Lexington Lake is a mixture of water, prairie, and woodland habitats. Located in DeSoto, Kansas, this 465-acre park features oak/hickory woodland and old growth prairie with more than 120 prairie plant species. One of these species is the federally threatened Mead’s Milkweed (Asclpeias meadii), a species that requires periodic burns for survival. The adjacent 27-acre lake provides food and habitat for fish, insects, birds, and mammals. Attractive to both wildlife and community, you can see folks walking, fishing, birding, and enjoying outdoor recreation.
