Our mission is to encourage the appreciation, conservation, and use of native plants in the heartland through educating, collaborating, and facilitating the planting of regenerative native landscapes that are essential for a healthy planet.

Did you enjoy our virtual hike to Nelson Island last week? Grab your boots and binoculars! Join us for a guided naturalist walk this Saturday, November 16th. This walk is led by native plant nerd, Cydney Ross of Deep Roots and natural resource experts from Johnson County Parks and Recreation District. 🌸🐝

View prairie reconstructions, walk woodlands, and discuss the changing riparian landscape between Mill Creek and the Kaw River. The views are breathtaking. This is a hot spot for migratory birds, so who knows - maybe we'll see ducks, kingfishers, and perhaps Bald Eagles! 🦅

Explore old-growth prairies bursting with life and whimsical oak/hickory woodlands with historic stone wall features on Saturday, September 21st. Experience nature first-hand during our Guided Naturalist Walk with Deep Roots and Johnson County Parks and Recreation District.

Lexington Lake is a mixture of water, prairie, and woodland habitats. Located in DeSoto, Kansas, this 465-acre park features oak/hickory woodland and old growth prairie with more than 120 prairie plant species. One of these species is the federally threatened Mead’s Milkweed (Asclpeias meadii), a species that requires periodic burns for survival. The adjacent 27-acre lake provides food and habitat for fish, insects, birds, and mammals. Attractive to both wildlife and community, you can see folks walking, fishing, birding, and enjoying outdoor recreation.

From the late summer wildflowers to glacial erratics dotting the woods, experience the magic of nature in person. Learn about our changing landscape from JCPRD natural resource experts. Want to start your own prairie? Shrinking turf lawn is not only better for nature, but it also saves time, money, and valuable resources. With the majority of Missouri land being privately owned, it’s critical that we steward and create native habitat where we can.
