September Habitat Garden Tour
Put the Prairie back in Prairie Village, Kansas!
DELIGHTFUL SHADY SATURDAY MORNING
As the sun gets brighter and warmer, aren’t we all craving a nice bit of shade? While this isn’t typically true for plants, this well shaded garden contains a wide variety of species that do just fine without the sunshine. From Zigzag Goldenrod (Solidago flexicaulis) and New England Aster (Symphyotrichum novae), to the sedge packed makings of a comfortable soft landing, experience the splendor of early fall bloomers and shade tolerators that make up this yard. Be a witness to the care and intention behind each plant and anticipate inheriting the same love for native plants that made this garden a reality.
A PARTY WITH QUITE THE GUEST LIST
Along with hopes of inviting interesting architecture and color into the yard, this garden was planned with the hopes of inviting native wildlife that rely on the provided habitat. Those species have received their invitation and proudly RSVP-ed “On our way!”. Join the butterflies and skippers at the snack table of natives such as Smooth Aster (Symphyotrichum oblongifolium), and Showy Goldenrod (Solidago speciosa). Dance with pollinating bees and flies amongst the Rattlesnake Master (Eryngium yuccifolium) and Slender Mountain Mint (Pycnanthemum tenuifolium). This host is proudly the first client of Deep Roots’ Nature Advisor program and still references their site report when considering new developments. See the impact their work has had on their community of people and pollinators; you won’t want to be ‘fashionably late’ to this party.
BONUS HIGHLIGHT: ISLANDS IN THE SUN
See the impact a passionate gardener can have on their neighborhood as you walk by the native plant packed islands in the road. The development of small native habitats where they can be seen and enjoyed by all is a fantastic opportunity to spark curiosity and awareness in your community.
