Dr. Doug Tallamy, renowned author and expert on native plants, will be the keynote speaker when the Northwest Missouri Master Gardeners host the 2024 Missouri Master Gardener Conference September 27-29 in St. Joseph. The conference is open to all, so one does not need to be a Master Gardener to attend.

Enjoy several pre-conference events, including Taste of St. Joseph, private garden tours, historical and architectural tours. Nature lovers can take in an early morning tour of Loess Bluffs National Wildlife Refuge near Mound City.

Much consideration went into putting together a conference that would meet the needs of all gardeners. Educational sessions cover foraging, monarch butterflies and other pollinators, Hydrangeas, Orchids, pesticides, Succulents, and growing a cutting garden. If vegetables are your thing, topics include raised-bed and no-till gardening, growing Tomatoes, how to boost your harvest, and preserving your bounty. Also, get advice on aging in the garden, composting, and tool maintenance. Advanced education classes on garden design and gardening with natives also are offered. Plan to sign up for at least one of the hands-on workshops on Kokedama, papercrete and native bouquet design.
