Welcome to the first global and 100% virtual charity.
Our three core tenets are:
- Education is a child's human right.
- An educated population effectively tackles problems faced by developing countries.
- Educating girls and women specifically has the most positive impact on a society.
This is why we do what we do.
Here is how we do it:
- We award scholarships to talented but financially needy youth in developing countries.
- No more than 10% of donations go toward administrative expenses (the national average is 25%). At least 90% go directly to the children we sponsor.
- At least 2/3 of our scholarships go to girls and women.
- To minimize costs we have no office, assets or overhead, just this site, dedicated volunteers, and generous donors.
- Deep Roots is 100% volunteer staffed.
- Deep Roots was founded in 1998 by a US Peace Corps Volunteer in rural Namibia, Africa.
- We are now helping children go to school in four countries: Namibia, Zambia, Guatemala, and Nepal.
Deep Roots believes that if YOU know others need your assistance, and know that you can help - without lining anyone's pockets or building up any intermediate organization - then you will do as much as you can.
Are we right? Will you help? Please consider making a donation or volunteering your time.
If you have any comments, questions, or think you may want to be involved, please feel free to contact us or any volunteer individually.
